Is Homebirth Right for You?

Do you desire a safe and natural birth?
Numerous studies have revealed that homebirth has been proven to be at least as safe, if not safer than hospital birth for healthy moms. In our practice, greater that 90% of mothers experience a totally natural birth. Homebirth doesn't require much preparation. You will need mainly common things such as towels and clean sheets and you will have an inexpensive birth kit that will contain most of what is needed. We will bring any additional equipment and sterile supplies.

Do you want a care provider who really knows you as a person and cares about your thoughts and feelings?
By the time you are ready to have your baby, your home midwife has spent many hours with you during prenatal visits. She knows your desires, your concerns, and what is important to you. Our families are also our friends and we develop deep connections with them.

Do you want to labor in a comfortable environment, free from stangers, obtrusive equipment, where you are in control?
The most comfortable place for most women to labor is in their own space, wearing their own clothes, surrounded only by those that she has invited. At home, you are not encumbered by needles, monitors, catheters, or other unnecessary equipment. You can do whatever is comfortable for you and you will maintain complete freedom of movement.

Do you want continuity of care?
Your homebirth midwife that has cared for you throughout your pregnancy is the same person that will be with you throughout your entire labor and birth. Because we have a personal relationship with you, we are better able to help you through your birth.

Do you want to avoid unnecessary procedures and interventions?
Very few women actually require medical interventions during birth. We have a very low cesarean rate and we do not encourage routine induction or perform episiotomies, nor do we use forceps or vacuums.

Do you want your newborn baby to remain in your arms after the birth and never be taken away?
At home, your baby is your baby. You are always in control of his or her care. All necessary examinations happen right next to you, with your permission. We help you get started on breastfeeding as soon as you would like.

Do you want your family and friends to participate actively in your birth?
Your can invite anyone you like to your homebirth. Some families choose to include grandparents or other relatives, close friends, children, or pets. Others prefer a very quiet birth with only the father, the midwife and the birth assistant. With your permission, your family can support you, encourage you, take pictures, catch the baby-whatever you would like. We encourage children and pets to be present, if desired.
